In 2025, Sustainability Network and Skills4Good AI launched Canada's first Responsible AI Literacy Series for environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs), sponsoring 15 ENGO leaders to build Responsible AI skills across conservation, advocacy, and sustainability.

Year 1 demonstrated readiness. Year 2 advances to the Responsible AI Audit™: three CPD-accredited streams that equip environmental leaders with a systematic methodology for identifying and managing AI risks in professional practice.

This fall marks the final round of Sustainability Network's 2026 ENGO subsidies for the Responsible AI Audit™ program.

Year 1: Building Canada's Responsible AI Literacy for ENGOs

After more than 100 ENGO leaders attended the Year 1 partnership event and the Starter Course launch, Sustainability Network selected the top 15 ENGO leaders who applied for sponsorship through the Responsible AI Fast Track Certification Program, representing organizations including CPAWS, David Suzuki Foundation, Recycling Council of BC, The Riverwood Conservancy, rare Charitable Research Reserve, and RE-AMP Network.


Year 2: Equipping ENGOs with Responsible AI Audit™ Methodology

Sustainability Network is sponsoring ENGO staff across Canada to earn Responsible AI Audit™ CPD credentials. Three professionally accredited streams. One audit methodology. Each stream is tailored to a specific profession, yet all deliver the same competency in identifying and managing AI risks in practice.

Why This Partnership Matters Now

Environmental organizations can’t afford AI errors. A hallucination in a policy brief, a privacy violation involving community data, or bias in a funder report aren’t abstract AI risks. They threaten the credibility that environmental organizations have spent decades building. The Responsible AI Audit™ methodology provides ENGO leaders with a repeatable framework to identify these risks before they cause harm.

Hands-on practice, not passive learning. Each CPD stream includes hands-on sessions that apply the audit methodology to real-world professional scenarios, from AI-generated grant narratives to stakeholder communications and research outputs.

A model the sector can replicate. This partnership, a sector network that sponsors members to earn professional AI audit credentials, sets a precedent any nonprofit network can follow.


Looking Ahead: 2027

In 2027, Skills4Good AI is extending the Responsible AI Audit™ methodology to AI agents — systems that act on your organization's behalf, not just generate content for your review. Completing this year's program is the prerequisite to qualify.
